Selected Works of Leonardo da Vinci

Overview   Process

Problem: Republish the classic translation of the selected works of Leonardo da Vinci.

The many fragments of Leonardo da Vinci’s manuscripts that have survived to the present day cover an incredible variety of areas and show how far ahead of his time Leonardo was. This collection of his literary work has been carefully translated and compiled to bring out the enormous range of his interests and convey the versatility of his artistic and scientific genius.

Two volumes in dust jackets

The first volume represents da Vinci’s scientific and engineering explorations. The second one is the book of Leonardo the Artist, which also includes his fables, facetiae and predictions.

Da Vinci’s writing is complemented with reproductions of the sketches and drawings from his manuscripts, and exhaustive translators’ commentary.

This set reproduces the classic two volume edition published in 1935 by Academia as part of series entitled Art History. The first volume features corrections made by translator Vasily Zubov in the margins of his personally owned copy.
