The kind of admins we have 17 March 2006

Today the studio’s portfolio contains over a thousand works. And there are almost as many in the illustrators portfolio. A visitor to the website finds it easier to conceive this amount of information if it is presented graphically rather than in a simple list.

The same is true of the website admin. Here are two examples of its interface.

Main page has two blocks showing announcements. To put up another preview the administrator can just drag and drop the image to the appropriate block (try it yourself):

Sorting the illustrators portfolio
Each illustrator has a dozen or two of works in the portfolio, and each day the department manager enjoys shuffling the pictures.

A brief history of JavaScript
The first version of it (it was first tried on the portfolio Amtel Vredestein page with car air freshners) was a rewritten language developed by Mike Hall in 2001. But when viewed on Safari, the images that were moved left traces, so I had to rewrite it completely (I used a trick I’ve learned from Walter Zorn tutorials—to stop images from smearing you should clone them and set position: absolute for the block).
