Interface design for the process model automation system for Norilsk Nickel

The process model automation system helps describe workflows and interactions between participants, offering a better understanding of the company’s structure and improving collaboration.

The redesign aims to make the system intuitive for any employee when viewing, approving or documenting business processes. The studio revamped the navigation, refreshed the visual style and ensured proper completion of the business process passport.

The business process listing page is central to the system. At the top is a summary statistics block, followed by the process list with two display options. The list also shows the hierarchy of business processes.

Cards provide quick access to key information about projects, with status indicators showing the current stage of each process.

Each business process goes through a strict approval workflow at various levels. Initially, the business process passport is empty: methodology specialists are prompted to input the required data and send it for review by an approver.

One way to view a business process is through a swimlane diagram, which allows users to track the entire chain of stages on a single screen. Methodologists visually build the relationships and causal links between events and participants, gaining a comprehensive view of the entire process.

Emphasis on what’s important is the foundation of the system’s user interface. All events requiring user attention are marked with a red dot. This ensures that no task is overlooked and everything is completed on time.

Interface elements in the form of gradient spots, where color indicates status, draw attention to unfilled fields and critical tasks. Green marks updated data in the passport, while blue indicates edit mode and user tips.

This visual approach is also used in other interface elements, such as pop-ups and success screens. Background gradients reflect the current status of each business process.

The Tasks section informs users about task progress. The table contains detailed information on assignees and deadlines.

One of the system’s key features is the ability to request expert input. Participants can send questions on specific topics and receive prompt responses, which are structured into threads, creating clear, visual cascades of inquiries.

The knowledge base with helpful materials is well-structured, helping employees learn the system faster. The section is built as a modular layout of multimedia content blocks that can be easily combined. This approach makes the material highly digestible and avoids a dry, overly formal presentation.
