“Start” is one of the largest Russian online cinemas with a huge library of films and series, including its own productions. The studio designed the cinema’s app for smart TV, completely rethinking the principles of presenting content. The start screen has turned into a selection of the brightest announcements with personal recommendations for each viewer.
A unified principle for highlighting active elements is used in the app: changing the scale and outlining with a white contour. Thus, when moving the focus across objects they do not “jump”, but only slightly increase, becoming closer to the viewer—this helps not to lose the overall context.

The menu is designed in such a way that the user can reach any item, find what they need, or change viewing modes with a minimum number of clicks.
The selected menu item is highlighted with a white background. This principle works anywhere in the interface.
A system of filters and smart sorting helps to find a film or series as quickly as possible in the endless catalog. We have especially carefully optimized these tools for working with a button-based remote control.
The usual form of presenting each film for “Start” is an attractive title with a key frame or poster, complemented by a typographic composition. In the studio, we added another type to it—banners of several formats. The search results become brighter and more diverse.

The main features of the television section are intuitive navigation and a convenient TV guide. You search for your favorite series and add it to favorites. For those who do not have enough time to follow the live broadcast, recordings of all airings are available.
The title of a film, show, or program easily expands to full screen, turning into an entertaining mini-section with diverse content.
When the kids mode is activated, children’s and teenage series, cartoons, and educational programs are the first to appear among the recommendations. The design of kids’ screens is made more colorful and softer compared to the regular mode.
